Neofinetia falcata ‘Suikaden’

June 25, 2008 · 2 Comments

‘Suikaden’ is a beanleaf variety of Neofinetia falcata which sometimes adds a touch of green to its white fragrant flowers. This is the first time I have bloomed this particular variety. There are definitely some touches and blushes of pink and green here and there, and overall I think they are quite pretty.
This plant came from New World Orchids.

Most of my Neos tend to wait until the afternoon or evening of the second day before becoming fragrant. This plant pleasantly surprised me with its fragrance which developed in the evening of the very first day the flowers opened.
It’s all syrup and honey — sweet vanilla, coconut, spicy floral — Mmmmm…

…taken in daylight…

…taken under lights…

Those are really, really pretty little things! Your photos are excellent and I’m glad we have the ability to open them up into a larger view.

Thanks montucky! They are indeed very pretty, very fragrant, and they bloom multiple times per year. I think they make a great hobby. :D Yes all my photos expand for a larger view. Thank you for pointing that out. :D I hope everyone is aware of that feature, and just to be sure, I’ve added a text widget to the top right corner of every page. :D

I wish I could minimize the blue or purple fringing which occurs in some of the photos. Part of the problem, I think, is that my ccd has too high of a resolution (too many megapixels) for the size of my lens. Perhaps there are changes in the settings which I could implement to help alleviate that problem. I am still learning. 8)
