“My land is bare of chattering folk;
the clouds are low along the ridges,
and sweet’s the air with curly smoke
from all my burning bridges.”
~ Dorothy Parker
I’m spellbound by the pink smoke tree, for within its wispy beauty lingers a feeling of sadness which never fails to reach out and squeeze my heart just a little too firmly. I’ve yet to figure out why it treats me this way.
What signal is it trying to send?

I wait every year for the smoke trees to bloom. Some are pink, some white, some reddish or rust colored…all are beautiful. This was my first attempt at photographing them…far from perfect but I made the post anyway.

“Wispy beauty” is a lovely description. They appear quite soft and delicate.

Smoke trees are great. The pink one is my favorite, then the reddish brownish purply one, and then the off-white color. I think there are other varieties and species too, but I have only personally seen the three I have described here. They remind me of the artistic illustrations of flowering trees I have seen in children’s storybooks of long ago.
