Each evening sees it close;
Something attempted, something done,
Has earned a night’s repose.

Sparkling Starbursts of Magenta

July 20, 2008 · 6 Comments

Dainty but dazzling, old fashioned yet new, this lovely Ice Plant bears cactus-like flowers on cold-hardy sphagetti-thin foliage which also happens to be succulent. Everything about this little plant sparkles in the sunlight. It is simply gorgeous.

Salmon Bubbles

“The earth hath bubbles as the water has,
And these are of them.”
~ William Shakespeare

These Diascias have gone wild and their color is sumptuous. This photo pleases my inner child, evoking fond memories of blowing bubbles in the back yard. It also makes me think of Jellyfish Lake on Palau (hint: Google Image Search)

“Abruptly the poker of memory stirs the ashes of recollection
and uncovers a forgotten ember, still smoldering down there,
still hot, still glowing, still red as red.”
~  William Manchester

This is a fairly common summer annual bedding plant
~ Double Purslane ‘Fairytale Cinderella’ ~
but it bears flowers which possess an uncommon glow.

“The serenity of mind, gentleness, silence, self-restraint, and the purity of mind are called the austerity of thought.”   ~   Bhagavad Gita

The leaves of this pineapple lily (Eucomis) invoke in me a mood of serenity and quiet contemplation.

“As the yellow gold is tried in fire, so the faith of friendship must be seen in adversity.”   ~ Ovid

These are some friendly spots of sunshine which have caught my attention in the past few days.
