Nature’s Dance of Fire

October 28, 2009 · 9 Comments

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane
by those who could not hear the music.

Life has a way of throwing curve balls our way when we least expect it.
I choose not to let them hit me, and I choose not to strike out.
I’m going to hit one out of the park and dance my way around the bases
all the way to home plate. I can hear the music. Can you?

Summer ends,
and Autumn comes,
and he who would have it otherwise
would have high tide always
and a full moon every night.

Sundown at the River

June 11, 2009 · 7 Comments

A short visit to the river’s edge Wednesday evening was a peaceful way to close out the day. Countless cottonwood seedpuffs floated on the water, and the cool still air was fragrant with tree blossoms and clusters of wild grapevine bloom.

Peaceful Afternoon

May 13, 2009 · 9 Comments

Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers,
the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters,
and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books.
~ John Lubbock

* * *
Tuesday afternoon I walked up the hill which overlooks the river.
Bees were buzzing in flowers everywhere I looked.
Airborne geese noisily followed the river’s path
as smaller birds twittered in the trees.
Bright fluffy clouds passed noislessly overhead.
Everything was beautiful.
