Uncommon Beauties

Everything that is new or uncommon raises a pleasure in the imagination,
because it fills the soul with an agreeable surprise, gratifies its curiosity,
and gives it an idea of which it was not before possessed.
~ Joseph Addison

Here are some flowers which I think are not often seen in most gardens.

Daphne ‘Carol Mackie’ — with fragrance to make you swoon!
I spied this in a stranger’s yard and used 15x zoom to capture the image.
Does anyone know what this is?
This is the beginnings of the lovely False Indigo,
Baptisia australis, seen here and here …stay tuned!

The Neighbor’s Trees

Jealousy and love are sisters.
~ Russian Proverb
My neighbor, bless her heart, has a couple of gorgeous trees
which I simply adore. They are so beautiful that sometimes
– for just a brief moment –
I become a jealous child who wants to run over and chop them down.
How dare she have trees more beautiful than my own!
I don’t know what this one is, but it sure smells good!
The Flowering Quince has no fragrance, but the flowers are to die for!

When all the world is young, lad,
And all the trees are green;
And every goose a swan, lad
And every lass a queen;
Then hey for boot and horse, lad,
And round the world away:
Young blood must have its course, lad,
And every dog his day.
~ Charles Kingsley
I ventured out to see what I could find as the snow began to melt away.
Here are some photos and video clips of what I saw today.
You will need Flash Player installed to view the video clips.
Enjoy!

Witch Hazel flowers massed along the branches are unphased by winter weather. Their warm colors and rich scent seem exotic in contrast to the snow on the ground. The sun makes their colors glow brighter and entices even more fragrance from these strange blossoms.

Incoming flight!
…and I can certainly understand why!
The honey sweet perfume is intense and pervasive.
