Summer ends,
and Autumn comes,
and he who would have it otherwise
would have high tide always
and a full moon every night.

Moments of Beauty

May 16, 2009 · 5 Comments

Beauty is unbearable, drives us to despair,
offering us for a minute the glimpse of an eternity
that we should like to stretch out over the whole of time.
~ Albert Camus

There is something special about each of these photographs which captures
my imagination. It is as if light conspired with time to create natural beauty
lasting only a moment, yet I was lucky enough to be in the right place
at exactly the right time to record it forever.

Peaceful Afternoon

May 13, 2009 · 9 Comments

Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers,
the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters,
and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books.
~ John Lubbock

* * *
Tuesday afternoon I walked up the hill which overlooks the river.
Bees were buzzing in flowers everywhere I looked.
Airborne geese noisily followed the river’s path
as smaller birds twittered in the trees.
Bright fluffy clouds passed noislessly overhead.
Everything was beautiful.

Mahonia…finally!

May 2, 2009 · 4 Comments

Mahonia repens aka Oregon Grape has finally decided to bloom.
Over in Montana they were blooming back on April 15th…go figure!

You can see some fairly extensive cold damage on this branch.

This is what the buds looked like here on April 10th
Notice how the leaves were purplish. They get that way during winter months.

Chillin’

April 28, 2009 · 7 Comments

One must be out-of-doors enough to get experience of wholesome reality,
as a ballast to thought and sentiment.
Health requires this relaxation, this aimless life.

~ Henry David Thoreau

Tabbie on Turkeys

April 27, 2009 · 6 Comments

I tired myself out chasing turkeys through the woods yesterday afternoon.
It would have been nice had they just stood around and posed nicely for me,
but nooo, they had to keep moving right along.
Below are several snippets of footage which turned out good enough
that you can actually see the miserable beasts.
