When all the world is young, lad, And all the trees are green; And every goose a swan, lad And every lass a queen; Then hey for boot and horse, lad, And round the world away: Young blood must have its course, lad, And every dog his day. ~ Charles Kingsley
I ventured out to see what I could find as the snow began to melt away. Here are some photos and video clips of what I saw today. You will need Flash Player installed to view the video clips. Enjoy!

______________________________ Witch Hazel flowers massed along the branches are unphased by winter weather. Their warm colors and rich scent seem exotic in contrast to the snow on the ground. The sun makes their colors glow brighter and entices even more fragrance from these strange blossoms.

______________________________ Incoming flight! …and I can certainly understand why! The honey sweet perfume is intense and pervasive.

These are Saturday’s scenes, and everything here, from rabbits and fishes to witches named hazel, will be covered in snow by tomorrow morning. Only the moon will remain…
The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month. ~ Henry Van Dyke

…and it looks exactly this gray and dreary out there too! Brrrrrr!
There is still vitality under the winter snow, even though to the casual eye it seems to be dead. ~ Agnes Sligh Turnbull
Over the past week or so our temperatures have ranged from -10°F (-23°C) to over 60°F (15°C). Today I took advantage of the sunshine, warmth and disappearing snow…
I’m sure winter will return with more frigid temperatures, cold winds and blowing snows before spring finally arrives, but today was a true joy for me.
Cold! If the thermometer had been an inch longer we’d have frozen to death. ~ Mark Twain ________________________________
Bitter cold and deep snows have descended upon us over the past several weeks. Oh, how I long for Spring!
________________________________ On a brighter note, I have recently acquired two new orchid plants: Neofinetia falcata varieties ‘Kingin Rasha’ and ‘Sobiryu’
I am in the process of mounting and repotting several of my plants including these two newest acquisitions. I hope to post photos soon.
There is nothing in the world more beautiful than the forest clothed to its very hollows in snow. It is the still ecstasy of nature, wherein every spray, every blade of grass, every spire of reed, every intricacy of twig, is clad with radiance. ~ William Sharp
I woke up this morning to a winter wonderland. Unfortunately I had to get out of my nest and into the miserable conditions to travel over treacherous roads toward dreaded destinations. The scenery was amazing everywhere I went, and I regretted time and again not being able to stop and take photographs of the breathtaking beauty which surrounded me. Still, I managed to snap a couple of detail shots first thing in the morning. They don’t capture the overall beauty of the landscape, but I survived the day and now you can at least get a small taste of the magic I delighted in today.
The winter is long and the snows will undoubtedly be abundant. Stay tuned because next time I will probably get better pictures to share with you. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy these shots!
